READING STRATEGIES
When we read short stories and novels together in class, or when students are independently reading their Accelerated Reader novels, they should create a dialogue with the text through, using the following READING STRATEGIES:
CONNECT- Can you make a text-text, text-self, or text-world connection to the characters or events? "That reminds me of..."
VISUALIZE- What are you visualizing?What can you see in your mind?
QUESTION- "I wonder..." "Why...?" What...?"
INFER/PREDICT - "I think that..." "I predict..."
SUMMARIZE- Summarize what you read with background knowledge, ideas or your opinion.
EVALUATE- "I think this is really important because..." I am confused by..."
