STUDENT JOURNALS
|
In addition to writing narrative, explanatory and persuasive essays this year, we spend a lot of time journaling. Students respond to a variety of journal prompts. This year, students will write responses to open-ended questions using R.A.C.E., interpretations of quotes, as well as reading responses to short stories, Accelerated Reader books and novels. A favorite type of journal entry are quickwrites. Students are shown the lyrics to song or a poem, and they can "steal" a line to help them begin a creative writing piece. I am always amazed at what they come up with!

QUOTABLE QUOTATIONS
Below are a few of a collection of quotes we will discuss and interpret throughout this school year. Students respond to these quotes in their journals, and they are reminded to refer to them when referencing authors, biographical subjects, as well as fictional characters we encounter when reading throughout the year.
